Google’s rollout of RCS features to its own Messages application hasn’t been the smoothest they’ve done, but it has brought some useful features to millions of people. Even when the mobile carriers dragged their feet along the way, Google has stuck with it and it’s now available to more people than ever before.
Having this feature enabled comes with its own drawbacks, though.
As mentioned in my previous video, if you end up switching phones without disabling this feature first then you could end up missing a lot of text messages until it’s fixed.
On occasion, having this feature enabled has caused some people to not be able to send their text messages. This can happen for one reason or another, but if messages don’t send when RCS is enabled then there isn’t a fallback set up by default. It’s possible to set it up this way, but it isn’t configured to do this by default. At least not as of recording this video.
So let me take this time to show you an option in the Settings of the Google Messages app that will use SMS and MMS as a fallback if your phone is having trouble sending an RCS message.
