More than 1,600 student-members will compete in the 2019 SkillsUSA Florida State Leadership and Skills Conference set for April 7-9 in Pensacola .
Hosted by Pensacola State College, the conference along with the Worlds of Possibilities Career Expo will be held at the Pensacola Bay Center. The event ─ the largest in the SkillsUSA Florida program history ─ is expected to attract more than 6,000 visitors to the area and have a $ 4.5 million impingement on the economy .
Accomplished trainer Jim Van Allan will be the keynote loudspeaker during the opening ceremonies set for 8 post meridiem Sunday, April 7, at the Bay Center. He will share tips on leadership, communication and culture .
Competitions will be on Monday and Tuesday, April 8 and 9. SkillsUSA Florida student-members will participate in more than 100 competitions during the conference that is themed “ SkillsUSA Florida : Champions at Work ─ Breaking Limits, Breaking Waves. ” First-place winners will advance to the national conference in Louisville, Kentucky.

“ This year we are hosting 101 different skill and leadership competitions – the most we ’ ve ever had at a SkillsUSA Florida statewide conference, ” said Jessica Graber, state film director. “ In summation to national-qualifying events, we have five Florida-only competitions that do not advance to the national level. ”
Thousands of Escambia County and Santa Rosa County students besides will visit the Worlds of Possibilities Career Expo on April 8 and April 9. The exhibition will include 13 hands-on synergistic worlds, where more than 100 business and diligence partners have set up exhibitions .

The career exhibition will open to the public from 2-3 post meridiem April 8 during the Worlds of Possibilities Job Fair set for 2-5 post meridiem on the Bay Center ’ south one-third floor. Over 50 businesses and early entities including the City of Pensacola, Navy Federal Credit Union, Santa Rosa Medical Center, ST Engineering Aerospace and the U.S. Census Bureau will be on-site .
“ We are gallant to offer the largest number of SkillsUSA Florida contests in career and education and bring so many people to Pensacola over a three-day period, ” said Jennifer Ponson, SkillsUSA Florida Region 1 film director and Pensacola State ’ s student outreach coordinator. “ SkillsUSA prepares students for the work force by in-class skill formulation and real-life know. ”

This is the second gear straight year Pensacola State has hosted the SkillsUSA Florida league. In 2016, Pensacola State President Ed Meadows and Stan Connally, early CEO of Gulf Power Co., announced the College had won the bid to host the 2018, 2019 and 2020 SkillsUSA Florida conferences. Pensacola State beginning hosted the statewide conferences in 2012, 2013 and 2014 .
Meadows said bringing the event back to Northwest Florida was an overall residential district feat .
“ The proposal was approved because of the level of community and business and industry subscribe, ” Meadows said. “ We are indeed excite to see the talented students from all over Florida competing in these skilled events. And the Worlds of Possibilities Career Fair will provide invaluable information to thousands of local middle educate students from Northwest Florida. ”
He besides commended the SkillsUSA Florida student-members on earning spots at the state of matter conference .
“ The SkillsUSA students have had and continue to gain valuable experiences in teamwork, professionalism and the good exploit ethic that is needed in our work force nowadays ” Meadows added. “ … SkillsUSA is a all-important depart of business and industries mission to assist communities with providing a coveted master cook to work in nowadays ’ randomness work force. ”
