Why does it seem impossible that the Egyptians constructed the pyramids.
The ancient pyramids are quite possibly the most impressive and mysterious structures in the world. So impressive that many believe that aliens must have built them. So why do people believe humans could not have built them? The Great Pyramid is estimated to weigh about 6 million tonnes overall and comprised 2.3 million blocks. Some of the blocks used for the Kings Chamber weighed up to 80 tonnes and would have had to be transported 500 miles down the Nile. As well as its sheer size, the Great Pyramid is very precise, aligning perfectly to true north. However, there are theories on how the egyptians built these pyramids, although all of them have their critics. For example, one theory suggests that they used giant sleds to move the blocks, using water or vegetable oil to lubricate them over the desert sands. Although the alien explanation is cool, it seems much more likely that these ancient civilisations were simply much more advanced than we currently believe them to be.
