TWRP for the Redmi Note 8 isn’t working (for me) right now but the OrangeFox custom recovery is and I’ll show you how to install it today.

A custom recovery replaces your stock recovery software (think of it as an app you can only access certain ways) on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 and the 8T variant.
TWRP seems to be the more popular one but sometimes the stock builds get out of hand with random bugs or incomplete support from the devs. Whatever the reason, some of these Android phones get better custom recovery support from other releases.
After doing a bit of digging, I’m finding that the OrangeFox Redmi Note 8 custom recovery is the best option at this time. I tried doing a video on the TWRP install but chose to not upload it due to basic bugs preventing you from seeing data on your internal storage (common encryption bug with custom recoveries).
So instead of uploading broken tutorials that technically work (TWRP installed just fine for me), I would rather make sure I can recommend the best tools available for my subscribers.
This where OrangeFox recovery project comes into play. This is an alternative to TWRP that has been around for a while and looks to be feature complete while also supporting the latest Android 11 custom ROMs (and all of their security and encryption features).

1. Intro [00:00]
2. Download the OrangeFox recovery image file [01:45]
3. Reboot the Redmi Note 8 into Fastboot Mode [02:07]
4. Execute the Fastboot flash command as described [02:52]
5. Reboot the Redmi Note 8T into Recovery Mode [04:37]
6. Then let OrangeFox recovery install properly (by allowing modifications) [05:47]
7. And reboot back into Android [07:24]
8. Test to make sure it was installed properly [08:14]
