NFC tends to get ignored among the Android community but the big update to version 12 will change that a little bit. Along with adding the ability to unlock an automobile, Android 12 phones will also be able to require the phone to be unlocked before NFC can be used at all.

Privacy and security are going to be at the forefront of the next major update and we’re seeing it in a number of different ways.
While users will be gaining the ability to add a digital car key to their Android 12 device, some would rather know they are the only ones able to use NFC on their phone at all.
In most cases, you never needed to unlock the smartphone in order to use NFC (for many, this adds a major layer of convenience to the technology) but some felt this wasn’t secure enough and never used them.
So for the new Android 12 update, we now have the ability to go into the Settings application and require our phones be unlocked before NFC can be used at all.
Just remember that this requirement is disabled by default and we need to manually enable the feature to enforce it. At least that’s how things are in Beta 2 of the Android 12 update.
