Google has begun rolling out a new data collection “feature” via the Google Play Store application. This video goes over what data is being collected, why it’s being collected, and how to disable the feature entirely.

Google collects a TON of data on Android users through many different outlets. A new method that’s happening is about application install data AND which parts of an application you’re accessing after it has been installed.
The goal here is to find out which area of apps people are using first so that Google can install those parts of the application first. Over time, the company will be able to use this data to optimize which parts of the app gets downloaded and installed first.
With enough data points, Google believes they can help improve the user experience when it comes to installing new applications and games from the Google Play Store.
However, not everyone likes their data being collected and stored on Google’s servers. So whenever possible, I like to show people how they can stop this type of data collection so that they can improve the privacy of their personal data.
And in this video I go over the newest bit of data collection via Android. This may be limited to Android 12 right now (I’m not seeing this feature on my daily driver just yet) but it’s something you’ll want to double check via the Settings of the application.
