Booting the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, 8T, & 8 Pro in and out of Fastboot Mode?

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Fastboot Mode is a way for us to gain a higher level of access to the smartphone’s filesystem. This is another one of those special Android boot modes and you’ll need to learn the button combination in order to access it.

Fastboot Mode is something we use in order to perform various tasks (sometimes with ADB & Fastboot tools). Some of us will boot into Fastboot Mode on the Redmi Note 8 Pro to flash firmware images (such as a custom recovery, kernel, ROM, etc) but there are other functions that it enables as well.

In today’s video, I have the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 and will be showing you how to boot the device both into and out of Fastboot Mode. This process also works for the entire Redmi Note 8 series including the Redmi Note 8, Redmi Note 8T, and Redmi Note 8 Pro).

We begin by getting the smartphone into a powered-down state. If you’re able to boot the phone into Android then you can simply use the Power Menu as I demonstrate in the video. However, if you’re currently in a bootloop then you’ll need to time the button combination right when you see it restart.

You’ll need to continue holding this button combo through the first boot image in order to access Fastboot Mode. Once you see the little Mi doll in the Russian hat you can let go of these two buttons.

Now, I know that some of you may have booted into this mode by accident. Sometimes it happens due to a case while other times it could just be a software bug with the MIUI firmware. In either case, it’s rather easy to exit this Fastboot screen.

You’ll just need to force a restart by pressing and hold the Power button for 7-10 seconds.

That will make the display turn black (because it no longer has power going to it) and then begin rebooting shortly afterward. Unless you have something wrong with your Android firmware (corruption possibly), then you should see the phone boot back into Android like normal.

However, if you notice the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 just continues to reboot back into Fastboot Mode then you may need to perform a factory data reset. I have a tutorial that shows how to boot into Recovery Mode which is where you can reset the phone and get back to a working install of MIUI.
