Samsung has a history of changing the way its customers can boot their smartphones into special Android boot modes. This has typically only been done when the company moves forward with changing the hardware button layout.

However, with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra, we now have a new way to boot into the aforementioned Recovery Mode.

This change will likely upset some people but it is a move that will prevent people from accidentally booting into it.

So to start with this tutorial, we need to power off the smartphone. With that done, you’ll then need to connect the phone to the PC with a USB cable. Once the connection is made you’ll likely see an indicator on the screen for the device’s battery level.

We’re going to ignore that though, and instead begin pressing and holding the Power and Volume Up buttons. Some of you may be familiar with this because the button combination is the same. The thing that has changed is the requirement of the USB cable being plugged in.

After a few seconds of holding these two buttons, you should see the main menu of the stock Android recovery screen.

You can actually unplug the USB cable now if you want.

From here, you are unable to navigate through this menu with the touchscreen. Instead, we need to use the hardware buttons to change which option is highlighted. This is done by pressing the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons.

As you highlight an option in blue that you want to select, you can then press the Power button to choose that menu option.

When you’re done, go ahead and highlight the “Reboot System Now” option and press the Power button to select it.
